Flow Forward NJ
“The Beast, The Beauty” Art Exhibition
Overview
FFNJ is a non-profit in the state of New Jersey that educates on period poverty, and aims to spread awareness about menstrual accessibility, reproductive health, and improving related legislation.
Objective
To cultivate discussion on their mission and accentuate the communities and marginalized experiences that FFNJ was created to serve and support, using an art exhibition with a theme that discusses the duality of the divine feminine. Along with their need for event coordination and administrative support, they wanted an illustrated design that was versatile for future promotion and fundraising while highlighting their commitment to local creatives.
Approach
We detailed all event goals and organized the steps inbetween, making a path to execution digestible. For advertising, we created an illustration that is fully hand drawn, and designed with fine detailing and open space for versatility, making it applicable to a wide range of merchandise for future fundraising, such as art prints, stickers, tote bags, and clothing. The illustration depicts the goddess Athena, known for her divine associations with the hunt, menstruation, transition, and the wilderness. She gazes at a pomegranate, a symbol of fertility, abundance, and ancient spirituality, which has been pierced with one of her arrows.
